What should i do with my savings bonds?
by admin ~ June 26th, 2010 . Filed under: Personal Finance .poptart asked:
I dont want to put them in my savings account because then I would have to cash them in, and I dont want to put them in a safe deposit box because you have to pay regularly and whatnot. I want to keep them so they dont get cashed in yet because they can still earn money. And I dont feel safe with them in my house in case there is a fire or tornado then I can’t get them back! What can I do to keep them safe?!

Go to your local department or hardware store and purchase a firebox.
This will protect them from harm from fire. Keep it somewhere safe in the house. Secondly keep a list of the serial numbers of the bonds with a parent or very trusted source. If Bonds are destroyed, they because of their serial number, can be replaced. Just keep the serial number, date of issue, and so on on a second list away from the home. Fire tornado flood and hurricane may destroy the paper, but the serial number and data are held buy the federal government and kept on file.
