Savings bonds? Will it ever be worth more than $50?

I got a $50 savings bond from some folks after I graduated high school. I looked up what it is worth today which isn’t a whole lot. About $27 and change…

I understand that one day it will mature and be worth $50…but does it continue to mature after that? Like if I left it alone until I was an old man would it be worth $100? It seems like I’ve heard of old savings bonds being worth a ton of money…so what am I missing here?
