I heard you can lose up to six months in interest, under certain conditions!

There are no “best months.” You can look up their current value at treasurydirect.gov.

  2. Al in NC

If you redeem an EE Savings Bond before it is 5 years old, you will lose 3 months of accrued interest.

You can go to this webpage to determine the current value of your bonds:

If you are not going to hold a Savings Bond until maturity date the best time to redeem:
First- After it is at least 5 years old then Second - After an accrual date.
