i lost my savings bonds and dont have the serial number for them,how do i get my money?

i received a large amount of savings bonds as a child and my mother claims she lost them,leaving me without the serial numbers for them. technically its still my money right?i am 20 years old now ,so i can certainly do as i wish with them. how do i obtain this money without the proper paperwork?
