i have EE bonds from 1993, 1998, and 1999 - and i plugged them into the “savings bond calculator,” and either they’ve gone down in value, or i’m reading the data incorrectly.

They never go down in value. They are always worth their purchase price plus accrued interest.

They haven’t gone “down in value”, they just haven’t gone up as much as you would like; when you bought a “$100 bond” in 1993 that had a 2013 surrender date, you only paid $70 for it.

The value of the dollar may have an effect, but they grow at the rate they were purchased at. Right now EE bonds are at 3.6% and I bonds are at 4.3%.

Not unless the US Gov defaults on them.

    They are US government guaranteed.
