A good alternative to Savings Bonds?

I like the physical aspect of savings bonds, in that you actually have something tangible that you can cash in very easily, as opposed to just numbers in a bank account somewhere. Yet, I’ve heard savings bonds pay extremely low interest rates nowadays and are not very good investments. I’m wondering if anyone knows a similar type tangible investment like a savings bond, but that pays much better interest?

You may want to hold on to the savings bonds a little while longer. At least until interest rates start rising. At some point interest rates will have to rise because as we increase our national debt we have to make our treasuries more attractive to investors. If savings bonds are not for you at this time, try CD’s for a short term. You may find slightly higher rates. However, CD’s are completely taxable. So, the reason I mention to stay in savings bonds is because of the tax savings. They are 100% exempt from federal taxes.
